It is the autumn of 1983, the height of the Cold War, when NATO announces military maneuvers in Western Europe. Panic erupts between the Moscow and East Berlin leaders as it is assumed that these moves are designed to strike the east with the so-called first nuclear strike. The foreign intelligence secret service of the Ministry of State Security, Hauptverwaltung Aufklärung (HVA), sends a spy to the west for this reason, with the aim of spying on the plans of NATO and the Bundeswehr.For this mission, the sergeant major of the border troops of the GDR Martin Rauch was selected, who reluctantly accepts the job, with the promise that the state would relocate her mother to the top of the ranking for a transplant of kidneys. In West Germany, Rauch would have infiltrated under a false identity as lieutenant and aide-de-camp to General Edel of the Bundeswehr and would have to reveal the location of American Pershing II missiles and other NATO plans.
