The series centers on the life of Malcolm Bright, whose father, Martin Whitly, is the notorious serial killer known as "The Surgeon". As a child, Malcolm allowed the police to arrest his father and did not see him again (of his own free will) for ten years. He first became a profiler, working with the FBI (until he was fired), and is currently a consultant for the New York Police Department.Malcolm is forced to confront his father after a serial killer uses Dr. Whitly's killing methods. She now finds herself in constant contact with his father, as they both must use Whitly's insights to help the police solve horrific crimes and fight their own inner demons.
