Set in Hong Kong, the plot revolves around the sudden disappearance of Margaret's youngest son, during a walk to the evening market. The story of three American women, their affections, love stories and deceptions take place against the backdrop of the protests that took place in 2014 in Hong Kong. Margaret is afflicted by an oppressive sense of guilt, while her friend, Hillary, is caught up in her marriage that is about to end. At the same time, Mercy, whom Margaret met by chance, a Korean immigrant from New York and a young graduate of Columbia University, finds herself having to face a series of very difficult choices. This triggers a chain of events that affect the lives of the protagonists, who will be forced to confront feelings of guilt and responsibility.
