The miniseries focuses on the crews of the 100th Bomb Group during World War II, a unit that flew USAAF Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress strategic bombers of the Eighth Air Force based at RAF Thorpe Abbotts Airport, eastern England .[5] The nine-part series recounts the strategic bombing operations on Germany from 1943 to 1945, from the first actions against the U-boat bases in Norway and on the German coast, through the operations to destroy the production centers in the heart of Germany (Millennium , Gomorrah, Berlin and others) and the bombings in preparation for the Normandy landings (Pointblank), up to the missions to supply the populations of Europe liberated from German occupation in late 1945.
