2023: Twenty years after the outbreak of a brutal Cordyceps pandemic, a fungus that in fictional fiction turns humans into zombie-like monsters, 50-year-old Joel, a cynical smuggler now devoid of any hope for humanity, is forced under extreme circumstances to travel across the United States together with Ellie, a fourteen-year-old girl who has never lived outside the quarantine zone. But what was supposed to be a simple and quick delivery at the beginning will soon turn into a long and atrocious journey that will mark and bind them forever.
