Chief Inspector Amy Silva of the Scottish Police is dispatched on the Vanguard-class HMS Vigil nuclear ballistic missile submarine to investigate a death on board, which soon leads to the mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing vessel. Her investigations, and those of her colleagues on the mainland, lead the police to clash with the Royal Navy and MI5, the British security service.The story has similarities with the events involving the Royal Navy submarine HMS Vigilant.
