A professional hitman, called "Jackal", carries out a sophisticated staging: after having entered an office building, disguising himself and replacing a cleaner, he shoots Elias Fest, son of the politician Manfred Fest. The target is precisely the latter, and the Jackal shoots him from a considerable distance (three kilometers), killing him. Due to the singularity of the murder, Bianca Pullman, a British secret service agent, an expert in ballistics, is involved in the investigation and discovers that the killer uses a particular weapon, manufactured by an Irish terrorist and trying to capture him to obtain information on the weapon comes into possession of the rifle similar to the one used by the Jackal. During the investigation she discovers that only an exceptional sniper can use the weapon that killed Manfred Fest: in fact, at such a distance the bullet takes a few seconds to hit the target. The only one able to use it successfully is a former sniper of the British army, Alexander Duggan, presumed dead in Afghanistan.
Un sicario professionista, denominato "Sciacallo" opera una raffinata messinscena: dopo essersi introdotto in un palazzo d'uffici, camuffandosi e sostituendosi a un addetto delle pulizie, spara a Elias Fest, figlio del politico Manfred Fest. L'obiettivo è proprio quest'ultimo, e lo Sciacallo gli spara da una notevole distanza (tre chilometri), uccidendolo. A causa della singolarità dell'omicidio, Bianca Pullman, un'agente dei servizi segreti britannici, esperta di balistica, viene coinvolta nelle indagini e scopre che il killer usa una particolare arma, fabbricata da un terrorista irlandese e cercando di catturarlo per avere informazioni sull'arma viene in possesso del fucile simile a quello usato dallo Sciacallo. Durante le indagini scopre che solo un cecchino eccezionale può usare l'arma che ha ucciso Manfred Fest: infatti a una tale distanza il proiettile impiega alcuni secondi a colpire il bersaglio. L'unico in grado di usarla con successo è un ex cecchino dell'esercito britannico, Alexander Duggan, dato per morto in Afghanistan.
